As a group, North American migratory songbirds are in steep decline (Rosenberg et al. 2019). We are collaborating with SELVA and Environment and Climate Change Canada on projects that aim to explore potential threats to migratory songbirds during stopovers or while occupying stationary non-breeding areas in eastern Colombia. Currently, we have the following ongoing project:
o Ephemeral river islands as habitat for austral and boreal migratory songbirds

We are also interested in understanding the threats to common and abundant species that are not usually the focus of conservation actions but can be rapidly lost with habitat transformation. A collaboration with SELVA and Dr. Sergio Estrada-Villegas aims to determine whether small forest islands in tropical savannas provide key resources for the life history of local and migratory birds, with a focus on behavior. This project is supported by the American Ornithological Society's Latin American/Caribbean Conservation Research Award.
o The importance of small forest islands in tropical savannas of South America for bird life history
